Video games that can improve your concentration and memory

You may have been thought to believe that the effects of playing video games are nothing but harmful, but that is not entirely true. Scientists have found that playing video games (in moderation) can have some great positive effects on improving your concentration and memory.

Scientists have found a link between video games and high levels of intelligence. People who performed well on a certain type of video game also had high IQs. More specifically, researchers discovered changes in brain activity and increased performance on tests in people who played a video game 1 hour per day.

Where to find the best online games?

One of my favorite places for online games is Solitaire.org as they offer a variety of different solitaire games for you to enjoy. The games are suitable for all player levels and you can easily learn all the basics if you never played this type of games before.

Solitaire is an old school, challenging card game of concentration and skill that can be played alone. The most popular form of the game is Classic Solitaire and you can experience it through Solitaire.org.

Apart from Classic Solitaire, Solitaire.org offers many different types of games which you can explore (such as Mahjong, Word Games, Logic Puzzles, Card games, etc.).

Here are some of my favorite games to play:

  1. Pyramid Solitaire – The object of the game is to remove all cards from the pyramid. Cards are removed in pairs and these pairs must add up to thirteen. For example, a ten and a three can be removed together, as they add up to a total of thirteen.
  2. Wordoku – The aim of this puzzle is to enter one of 9 letters in each cell and your end goal is to find the word on the diagonal. It is a really great game to improve your concentration.
  3. Chess Grandmaster – This is a single-player chess board game which allows players to play a quick match against the computer or play through over 1,000 different puzzles they must complete in 2, 3 or 4 moves. Each player controls an army of pieces which are set up at the start of the game as shown. The aim of the game is to use your army to capture the enemy king.
  4. Medieval Castle Hidden Numbers – The goal of the game is to find all hidden numbers scattered throughout each level.
  5. Treasures of Atlantis Match – The goal of the game is to get each part of a picture or map to the bottom of the level by removing the pieces underneath it by making matches.

Final words

Playing video games for a short period of time can alter brain activity and more importantly, improve one’s attention skills, according to the researchers. If you are looking for a way to improve your concentration, attention to details and memory I highly recommend checking out Solitaire.org and the games I mentioned above.
